Diesel Mechanic (Technician)

An experienced DIESEL MECHANIC (TECHNICIAN) is required for permanent employment based in Dundee.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performing preventative maintenance on trucks, trailers, diesel powered fridge units and generators by conducting inspections to identify damages or worn components
• Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles
• Checking vehicle lighting, charging and starting systems
• Test driving vehicles to gauge performance and fuel consumption
• Running diagnostic tests on all vehicle systems, steering system, suspension system (pneumatic and mechanical) braking system (Pneumatic, hydro-pneumatic and hydraulic brakes)
• Maintaining a parts inventory
• Ensuring the cleanliness of the workshop (housekeeping)
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications
• Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist
• Attending to breakdowns

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Trade Test: Diesel Mechanic / Technician (merSETA/Olifantsfontein/QCTO)
• Valid driver’s license – Code 14 with PDP
• Contactable references
• 5 (+) years relevant experience in the trade
• Ability to speak in English and Zulu will an advantage.
• Ability to conduct maintenance and services on Mercedes Benz trucks, Kubota engines, Yanmar engines and Volvo engines.
• Able to work shifts and weekends.
• Position based in Dundee, local residency required.

• Proficiency with maintenance and repairs tools
• Physically fit and able to manage the physical requirements of the post.
• Diagnostic skills
• Aptitude for mathematics and science
• Advanced knowledge of diesel engine components
• Attention to details
• Good interpersonal skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
