About Organization :
The School of Artillery was established for the Indian Army at Kakul, now in Pakistan in April 1918. It moved to Devlali in June 1941. The Anti – Aircraft School at Karachi was also moved to Devlali and merged with the School of Artillery as one of its Wings in 1947. The Coastal Artillery Wing of the School, which was located at Bombay, was handed over to the Indian Navy in 1965. Since Independence in 1947, the School of Artillery has undergone many changes, in conformity with modernisation and expansion of the Indian Army and consequently of the Regiment of Artillery. The Air Defence Wing, after bifurcation, has moved to Gopalpur in Orissa and has been renamed as Air Defence Guided Missile School. The Air obervation post wing was renamed as Aviation Wing in Jan 1982. Combat Army Aviation Training School (CATS) was established wef April 2004 and the Aviation Wing of the School was completely amalgamated with the CATS wef May 2004. The seat of Devlali has been the Gunner Alma Mater since 1941. This charming cantonment is much more than a mere training establishment for the Officers, Junior Commission Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment of Artillery. It is a home away from home for most Gunners of all ranks who look up to the School of Artillery with pride and nostalgia and yearn to return to Devlali as often as possible. The Gunner ethos of professional excellence and positive thinking is prominently discernible in Devlali.
