🌏 The ‘Moving North’ Pilot – Skills Beyond Borders
Launched in September 2024 as part of Germany’s Ems-Achse programme, the ‘Moving North’ project trains and places South African artisans in high-demand German industries.

The first cohort (May 2025):

11 artisans with Red Seal certification

A2-level German proficiency

Hired in Mechanical Fitting, Metal Machining, and Fitting & Turning

The programme offers more than jobs – it includes cultural orientation, housing support, and financial literacy training, redefining artisan careers as mobile, respected, and sustainable.

“This partnership is a blueprint for responsible globalization… We are building careers, strengthening industries, and shaping futures,” says Ms. Cristine Wekenborg, Ems-Achse.
