Recruits will commit to a two-year period during which they will undergo military training and additional functional training in their first year. In the second year, based on their functional orientation duration, they will be deployed as necessary, allowing them to apply their knowledge and refine their skills.

This MSDS program introduces new members to the military lifestyle as they embark on their journey with the SA Army, Navy, Air Force, or Military Health Service.

At the end of the two-year period, members will have the option to either continue their service in the SA military or transition out. Continued service will largely depend on the individual’s performance throughout the program, the availability of positions in their functional field, and whether they have received recommendations for further service.

Members who choose not to extend their regular service or who are not recommended will be required to join the Reserve Force after completing the initial two years. This entails serving for 30 days each year over a five-year period.
