An opportunity for an experienced HSEQ SPECIALIST is required for a 1 year fixed term contract to be located in KwaZulu Natal.
• The HSEQ Specialist will oversee the health, safety, environment, and quality systems.
• The primary function will be focusing on the implementation of the HSEQ Management Systems (ISO9001, 14001 and OHSA18001).
• The role is essential to ensure compliance, safety standards, and upholding quality assurance and control measures across all operations.
• The position reports directly to the Operations Manager and supervises the HSE Officer and QA/QC Officer.
• Includes overseeing and managing the consultant responsible for implementing the HSEQ Management System and ensure that HSEQ processes are compliant with industry standards.
• Providing leadership and direction to the HSE and QA/QC Officers to promote a safe and quality-driven workplace.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee the implementation of the HSEQ Management System in collaboration with the consultant.
• Manage and direct the activities of the HSE Officer and QA/QC Officer to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations.
• Conduct regular HSEQ audits and reviews.
• Report HSEQ performance metrics to the Operations Manager.
• Identify areas for continuous improvement in HSEQ practices.
• Collaborate with the HSEQ Consultant to develop and deliver training programs aimed at enhancing HSEQ awareness and competence.
• Ensure proper documentation and reporting of incidents, risks, and quality non-conformities.
• Manage external HSE audits, including scheduling, implementation, reporting and the management of corrective actions.
• This includes Business Conformance Audits, Surveillance and Re-certification Audits.
• Develop and maintain a safe workplace for all employees and contractors, minimizing risks and hazards.
• Coach the team to reinforce safe practices as well as promptly correcting unsafe practices
• Drive a culture of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility across the organization.
Problem Solving:
• Address challenges in implementing and maintaining the HSEQ Management System.
• Resolve conflicts between operational requirements and HSEQ compliance requirements.
• Identify root causes of incidents and non-conformities and develop corrective actions.
• Balance resources and priorities between HSE and QA/QC functions.
• Proactively anticipate and identify issues that affect compliance by monitoring and using continuous improvements strategies.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma (Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Quality Management, Engineering or a related field).
• Relevant certifications (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, ISO 9001/14001/45001 Lead Auditor).
• Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety, quality management or demonstrated equivalent skills and experience preferable in a manufacturing / project environment
• Leadership or managerial qualifications (adv)
• Advanced training in risk management, safety audits, environmental laws, or quality assurance preferred
• Previous exp. implementing an integrated HSEQ Management System in compliance with ISO9001, ISO14001 & OSHA18001 (Non-negotiable).
• 5 years’ experience in manufacturing industry/mining Health and Safety, HR or related roles.

• Professional attitude to meeting business objectives.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Office suite skills.
• Taproot/Root cause Investigation
• Ability to work under pressure, with reliability and accuracy.
• Proven ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to lead incident investigations
• Ability to prepare and deliver detailed training presentations.
• Negotiation and facilitation skills
