NBT Costs: What You Need to Know and How to Pay
If you’re planning to pursue tertiary studies, you may need to write the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) to meet the admission requirements of your preferred institution. Here’s what you need to know about the costs of the NBTs and how to make payments.
The NBT is administered by the National Benchmark Test Project and consists of two tests: Academic Quantitative Literacy (AQL) and Core Maths (MAT). These multiple-choice tests each take three hours to complete and assess a student’s academic literacy, general knowledge, and mathematical skills to evaluate their readiness for university.
NBT Test Costs:
AQL only: R125
AQL and MAT: R250
Note: You cannot take only the MAT test. If you’re writing the MAT test, you must also write the AQL test.
If you need to make changes to your online booking, you can do so until the closing date listed on the test schedule.
Payment Methods:
Once you’ve booked your NBT test date, all payments should be made via EasyPay.
EasyPay Paypoints can be found across South Africa in food stores like Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, and Spar, as well as other retail outlets. Simply take your NBT registration letter to any EasyPay Paypoint near you to complete your payment.
You can also pay online through the EasyPay website and print out your receipt.
International Students and Students Without EasyPay Access:
If you’re an international student or live in a region where EasyPay Paypoints and online services are unavailable, you can make a direct deposit or EFT payment to the NBT Project:
Account Name: UCT
Account Number: 071503854
Branch Code: 025009
Reference: NBT231500
IBAN/SWIFT Code: SBZAZAJJ
Proof of Payment:
After making your payment, send confirmation to the NBT Project via:
Fax: 021-650-5331
Email: adp-cetap@uct.ac.za
Make sure to include your 14-digit NBT Reference Number, name, and ID number when sending proof of payment. Remember, your NBT scores won’t be released until the NBT Project receives confirmation of payment.
Test Session Cancellations:
If your registered and paid test session is canceled by the NBT Project (e.g., due to COVID-19 risk levels), you won’t need to pay again for the rescheduled test.
