What Is an NBT Simulation Test and How Does It Work?
If you’re planning to pursue a tertiary qualification, you may need to take the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) as part of the admission process for your chosen institution. Here’s what you need to know about the NBT simulation test.
The NBT, organized by the National Benchmark Test Project, assesses students’ academic literacy, general knowledge, and mathematical abilities to gauge their readiness for university-level studies.
Before the official NBT test day, students are required to complete a mandatory simulation test during the week leading up to it. This simulation serves multiple purposes: it helps students verify their IDs and allows them to get accustomed to the online testing environment.
You will receive a notification detailing the specific date by which you need to complete this simulation. Be sure to have a valid ID or passport that you used when registering for the NBT with you during this process.
For those who do not possess South African IDs or need to use a foreign passport or birth certificate for identification, an affidavit from the police is required, along with a recent ID photograph to confirm your identity.
The simulation test is designed to familiarize you with the login procedures and necessary software downloads, minimizing potential issues on the actual test day and enhancing your overall experience. Expect the simulation to take about 15 minutes to complete.
If you encounter any difficulties, online support will be available from 8 AM to 4 PM on weekdays. You can reach the helpdesk via email at nbt@uct.ac.za, by phone at 021 650 3523, or by using the online chat feature on the test platform.
It’s crucial for all students registered for the NBTs to complete this simulation test; failing to do so will prevent you from sitting for the NBTs on the scheduled test day.
