Canadian deputy minister David Morrison said that it has been made very clear that ‘India’s territorial integrity must be respected’.

Canada said that ‘India’s territorial integrity must be respected’ in a statement which would be the first such after allegations by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that India was behind the murder of Khalistani separatist terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar which soured New Delhi-Ottawa relations.

“Canada’s policy is very clear that India’s territorial integrity must be respected. There’s one India, and that’s been made very clear,” Canadian deputy minister for foreign affairs David Morrison said.

He made the statement while appearing before the foreign interference commission in Ottawa on Friday.

Morrison, who holds a position in Global Affairs Canada, the country’s foreign ministry, equivalent to India’s Foreign Secretary, stated that the stance was “absolute”.

According to reports by Hindustan Times, conversations between both countries are continuing in private. “We have open channels, we are continuing to talk to them,” he said, according to the newspaper.
