How to Submit Your University of Johannesburg Application

How To Apply To The University of Johannesburg (UJ) for 2026
Are you interested in studying at the University of Johannesburg but unsure how to apply? Don’t worry — here are simple steps to guide you through the application process.

Application Period
UJ applications are open for 2026. Some programmes close earlier, so be sure to apply on time:

Most programmes: Apply between 1 April 2025 and 31 October 2025

Some postgraduate honours and research programmes close earlier (check the UJ website for exact dates).

What You Need to Apply
Before you apply, make sure you have the following documents ready:

Final school leaving results if you are an international applicant or currently in Grade 12 (you can use final Grade 11 results if Grade 12 results are not yet available)

A valid South African ID, birth certificate, or passport

If your documents are not in English, provide a sworn English translation

If English was not your medium of instruction, provide proof of English proficiency.

UJ prefers IELTS (overall score of 6) or TOEFL (80–104 average) for undergraduate programmes.

If you’ve attended any university (local or international), submit your academic transcripts to be considered for course exemptions.

How to Apply
You can apply in two ways:

1. Online Application (Recommended)
Apply online for free through the UJ Online Application Portal

Online applications have no application fee.

2. Hard Copy Application
Download the hard copy application form here

Submit the completed form to the UJ Student Enrolment Centre or mail it to the university.

A non-refundable application fee of R200 applies for hard copy applications.

Campus Accommodation
If you require residence accommodation, you must submit a completed residence application form together with your study application.

Important Programme Deadlines
Some postgraduate programmes have earlier closing dates. For example, the following honours and research programmes close on 30 September 2025 at 12 noon:
