US Seeks “Diplomatic” Solution, End To Bombing Of Beirut But Backs Israeli Strikes On “Proxies”

On October 10, an Israeli airstrike in Beirut killed 22 and injured 117, using a US-made JDAM munition. The strike targeted a crowded apartment complex in Basta, which housed many displaced residents. This marked the deadliest attack in Beirut amid ongoing conflict with Hezbollah. US officials condemned the airstrikes, emphasizing the need for a ceasefire and highlighting concerns over civilian safety. Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged for a diplomatic solution, supporting Israel’s right to defend itself while prioritizing the protection of civilians.
