What Does ‘Provisionally Funded, Subject to Registration and Availability of Funds’ Indicate on NSFAS?
Each year, thousands of students apply for financial support through NSFAS.
The bursary scheme recently clarified what the “Provisionally Funded – Funded Subject to Registration and Availability of Funds” status means for applicants.
What Does ‘Provisionally Funded – Funded Subject to Registration and Availability of Funds’ Mean?
This status indicates that a student has been approved for NSFAS funding, but it is pending confirmation of their registration details from their institution. Essentially, once a student completes their registration for the academic year, their funding will be finalized.
“Availability of funds” refers to the budget NSFAS has allocated. In recent years, NSFAS has been able to cover all eligible applicants, so students with this status can be reassured that their funding will be confirmed after registration, provided there is sufficient budget.
Who Qualifies for NSFAS Funding?
To be eligible, students must be South African citizens or permanent residents with a household income of less than R350,000 per year. SASSA grant recipients automatically qualify. For those with household incomes between R350,000 and R600,000, NSFAS offers loans instead of bursaries.
Additionally, students must be enrolled in an approved course at a university or TVET college. NSFAS reminds applicants to provide accurate information, especially regarding household income, to ensure they meet the criteria for funding.
