What Is an NBT Simulation Test? Explained
Preparing for the NBT? Here’s What You Need to Know About the Simulation Test
If you’re planning to apply for a tertiary qualification, you may be required to write the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) as part of the admissions process at your chosen institution.
The NBT is designed by the National Benchmark Test Project to assess your academic literacy, general knowledge, and mathematical skills, helping universities evaluate your readiness for higher education.
What is the NBT Simulation Test?
All students registered to write the NBTs must complete a mandatory simulation test in the week leading up to their actual test day. This brief, 15-minute simulation allows you to:
Complete ID verification
Familiarize yourself with the online testing system
Ensure all necessary software is downloaded and working
This process helps prevent technical issues and makes for a smoother experience on test day.
Important Details
You’ll receive official communication with the exact date to complete your simulation test.
You must use the same ID or passport you used when registering for the NBT.
If you don’t have a South African ID or passport, or need to use a birth certificate, you must submit a police affidavit with a recent ID photo confirming your identity.
Support Available
If you experience any issues, support is available:
