Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities :

Key performance areas:
Payroll processing:

Reconciliation of payroll system to financial system
Preparation of payroll journals
Applications for tax directives
Calculate and process employee salaries, wages, piece work, bonuses, and other compensation accurately and on time.
Validate timekeeping records and resolve discrepancies.
Process payroll adjustments, including bonuses, overtime, and deductions.
Assist FM with calculation of annual profit-share amounts.
Manage and completion of UI19 documentation.
Assist in CTC calculations for potential candidates.
General query handling.

Tax compliance:

Ensure accurate and timely withholding and remittance of payroll taxes.
Stay updated on tax regulations and make necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.

Benefits administration:

Review all third-party payments and reconciliations.
Liaise with third-party administrators w.r.t medical aid and pension fund.
Ensure accurate and timely withholding and remittance of payroll taxes.

Yearly updates on beneficiary information

Record keeping:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records.
Prepare and maintain related employee records.

Compliance:

Prepare and file payroll-related reports, such as monthly and annual tax returns (EMP201, WCA, EMP501)
Ensure compliance with local regulations governing payroll.
Risk management procedures

Audit support:

Assist in internal and external audit related to payroll and employee compensation.

Desired Experience & Qualification

The successful candidate must have:

Matric with a degree in Accounting / Finance or relevant qualification
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation will be advantageous
2 – 3 years relevant working experience in a similar role
Working knowledge of Payroll software such as Sage 300, will be advantageous
Computer literate – (Word, Excel and especially Excel)
Good understanding of and working knowledge of all the appropriate Acts (LRA, BCEA, Secretarial determination, OSHA, COID, EEA, SDL)
Good accounting and tax knowledge (tax directives) and exposure to E@syfile, SARS E-filing
Knowledge and experience of EMP201 returns and EMP501
Reconciliation skills would be advantageous
Must have excellent organisational and time management skills
Must be able to manage a large payroll Must be able to work in a highly pressurised environment with strict deadlines
Must have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
Must have strong analytical skills, give great attention to detail and able to interpret large sets of data accurately
Must have strong problem-solving abilities and a pro-active approach
Able to maintain and build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships with a service approach.
Able to work independently and within a team
Must have a valid driver’s license
