Interviews in South Africa lean heavily on behavioural questions. Prepare six STAR stories (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and you can answer almost anything asked of you.
“Tell me about yourself” is a positioning question, not a biography. Give 60 seconds: who you are professionally, two proof points, and why this role is the logical next step.
On salary, give a researched range in Rands and state whether it is cost-to-company or basic plus benefits. Ranges avoid pricing yourself out before the shortlist.
Always ask three questions back: what does success look like in 90 days, how is the team structured, and what is the interview timeline. It signals ownership.
Follow up by email within 24 hours with a three-line thank-you that references one thing discussed. Most candidates skip this — you should not.
