Learnerships, internships and graduate programmes explained

Graduates at a learnership induction session

A learnership combines structured classroom training with workplace experience and ends in an NQF-registered qualification. An internship is workplace experience attached to a qualification you already hold.

Graduate programmes are 12–24 month rotational roles at larger corporates, usually recruiting between March and August for the following intake.

Stipends vary widely, so apply broadly. Prioritise programmes that end in a recognised qualification or a permanent-placement track.

Applications are volume games with strict cut-offs. Keep certified copies of your matric certificate, qualification and ID ready, and submit before the closing date, not on it.

Set a job alert for “learnership” and “internship” in your province so new intakes reach you the day they are published.
