Jobs you can get with matric only in South Africa

School leaver handing a CV to a retail supervisor in a store

Retail assistant, general worker, packer, security officer, call centre agent, petrol attendant, cashier, warehouse assistant and driver roles routinely list matric as the only formal requirement.

Employers screen these roles on availability, reliability, communication and location. Say clearly in your application that you live within commuting distance and can work shifts.

Three short courses lift you above the pile fast: PSIRA grading for security, a forklift or code 10 licence for warehousing, and basic computer literacy for admin and call centre work.

Keep a one-page CV with contactable references — a supervisor, a school teacher or a community leader is acceptable if you have no formal work history.

Apply the same day a role is published. High-volume entry-level adverts often close within 72 hours of going live.
